The OpenSSL toolkit is used within Net-SNMP in various ways:

  • For its implementation of the AES and DES encryption algorithms when using USM
  • For its implementation of the SHA1 and sometimes MD5 hashing algorithms when using USM
  • For its implementation of the DTLS protocol when the SNMP over DTLS transport has been enabled (5.5 or higher)
