[2013/06/13 04:16:27] #net-snmp <lloowen> Hello all. I recently configured mrtg to graph devices using snmpv3. It was a while ago and I can see in the mrtg.cfg file that I had to use the privkey "0x...." for snmpv3. I have totally forgotten how I managed to retive that. What command do I use to query the privkey details from the users I have created?
[2013/06/13 05:02:13] #net-snmp <lloowen> Does anyone know how I can query my engineid and privkey for a user, or do I have to delete the user and re-create it?
[2013/06/13 05:03:04] #net-snmp <rstory-work> engineid is in the persistent conf file (e.g. /var/net-snmp/snmpd.conf..
[2013/06/13 05:03:31] #net-snmp <rstory-work> user info is there too.. trying to figure out what format they are in to see if it's what you need
[2013/06/13 05:09:04] #net-snmp <lloowen> rstory-work: thanks for the reply :) I'm kicking myself that I did not make notes of how I query my privkey which is in 0x.... format. I have them but I need to figure out how I can retrieve them for other users I've created on other devices. I need them for mrtg.
[2013/06/13 05:12:14] #net-snmp <rstory-work> hmm.. i doubt you'll be able to retrieve them for other devices via snmp.. that wouldn't be very secure..
[2013/06/13 05:14:26] #net-snmp <rstory-work> i think the usmuser lines is the persistent snmpd.conf are what you want..
[2013/06/13 05:18:23] #net-snmp <lloowen> rstory-work: when I check my current mrtg.cfg file I see that I have placed privkey in hex format. Where did I get that from? Now I need t create more of these mrtg configs for users that I've recently created using snmpusm and net-snmp-config. I guess I'll have to create some new users and see if this information is shown after creation of a new user.
[2013/06/13 05:19:03] #net-snmp <lloowen> rstory-work: As you can tell, I'm a newbie :)
[2013/06/13 05:20:45] #net-snmp <rstory-work> i think you want to use the last 2 hex values in the usmuser lines from the persistent snmpd.conf file
[2013/06/13 05:44:24] #net-snmp <fenestro> the usmuser line contains the localized keys, along with the engine ID. Usually you give an NMS the master key so that it can localize per-destination, but if you want to give pre-localized keys (e.g., passing -3k/-3K to snmp commands) you can use the values in the usmuser line.
[2013/06/13 06:06:17] #net-snmp <rstory-work> yes, i was thinking they might be lacalized, but couldn't find anything in the docs that said as much..
[2013/06/13 08:06:21] #net-snmp <lloowen> when I try to use snmpusm, I get "snmpusm: Timeout" What does that mean? Can't see anything in the error logs.
[2013/06/13 09:23:26] #net-snmp <fenestro> we create usmuser lines ourselves (against the stern warnings in snmpd.conf), so I know more about them than I should ;-)

[2013/06/13 17:07:38] #net-snmp <FrankD> Hey, I'm having snmpd freeze up everytime I try to run snmpwalk.. wondering if there's a way to figure out where it's getting stuck
[2013/06/13 17:08:06] #net-snmp <FrankD> http://pastebin.com/N0FTCH5F .. a few seconds after that line (and always that line) I get a timeout, and can't snmpwalk again without restarting snmpd
[2013/06/13 17:09:57] #net-snmp <FrankD> I've tried 5.7.2 and 5.5
