Survey Background

Time needed: About 10 minutes

Background: The SNMPv3 protocol was designed to secure SNMP traffic against attacks. Although SNMPv3 is secure, as the packets can be authenticated and encrypted, there is a belief that the results are still not as usable as it could be since it requires a SNMPv3-specific user account database. The aim of this survey is to find out if this belief is true, and what could be done to improve the usablity and deployability of SNMPv3. Note that the majority of the SNMPv3 protocol does not need to change in order to meet the operator needs for security deployment (SNMPv3 was designed with future extensiblity in mind). Only a fairly small part needs to be "added" to enable some of the already distributed user authentication technologies.

Goal: The goal of this survey is to gather operational requirements to ensure what is developed in the IETF or elsewhere is of importance to the operational communities.

Privacy: The answers you submit to all of the questions in the following survey will be recorded anonymously and you will not be asked to provideany personal information aside from your 'role' in networking. This is of interest to us for classifing the responses received based on this 'role'.
